Since 1983, millions of Christians each year have set aside Sanctity of Human Life Sunday as a day of prayer and contemplation of the immense value of Life. Celebrated in January, the month in which the momentous Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion in America, this special day unites protestant churches in celebration of life.
The Christian Action Council (CAC) created Sanctity of Human Life Sunday to be a catalyst for churches across the country to teach the truth about abortion and Life. Through establishing a special day for consideration of life issues, the CAC sought to galvanize and to unify the efforts of Christians.
Since the first celebration of Sanctity of Human Life Sunday in 1983, Protestant Christians of all denominations have chosen this day to reflect especially on the value of God-given life and the importance of sharing this truth with others, through both words and deeds.
Churches sponsor a variety of activities and events to commemorate the day, including special prayer services, ringing church bells, sermons and Sunday School lessons teaching the Biblical respect for human life. Church leaders also encourage members of their congregations to support local crisis pregnancy centers that directly assist women, men and babies who are affected by crisis pregnancies.
The CAC was founded in 1975 by Dr. Harold O.J. Brown, with the advice and encouragement of the Rev. Billy Graham, the late Dr. Francis Schaeffer, and Dr. C. Everett Koop. For nearly a quarter century, the CAC has proclaimed the truth about abortion and life to the public, to the government, and through Care Net, to individuals through the work of local pro-life pregnancy centers, helped link churches and concerned Christians in providing needed services, including both material and emotional support, to women facing pregnancy related problems over 800,000 times.
Care Net Pregnancy Center of Rockland will provide speakers for your church or small group throughout the year, but specifically in January as we remember the Sanctity of Human Life and the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.
